Tornado-related road repairs on hold
Repairs to roads damaged by heavy traffic from hauling tornado-related debris are on hold while Lee County clarifies federal reimbursement for the project. Ten spots along Birmingham Ridge Road, County Road 251 and Euclatubba Road were worn down as tornado debris from Tupelo, Lee County and Itawamba County was hauled to the Tim May Company landfill.

Tishomingo County Water District hears customer concerns, responds
About a dozen customers of the Tishomingo County Water District attended Tuesday's board meeting to question recent high water bills and ask board members for solutions. Board chairman Donnie Cain said there were three major contributors to the high bills: two recent major breaks on large water lines that were expensive to repair; a loss of 68 percent of water on the system as a result of these and other water line breaks and leakages; and a doubling in the rate from the city of Iuka from which the water district buys water.
Alcorn County corruption suspects arraigned
Three of the five Alcorn County officials and vendors indicted last month on public corruption charges were arraigned Tuesday in open circuit court. Judge Jim Pounds reviewed charges detailed in indictments from the Alcorn County grand jury and set March 19 as the next date four of the defendants are to appear in court.

North Mississippi homeless count begins Monday
Northeast Mississippi organizations that work to eliminate homelessness and aid homeless people are preparing to conduct a count next week to help expand resources for their work. Spearheaded by Mississippi United to End Homelessness, the Point-in-Time survey will encompass Tupelo, Columbus, West Point, Corinth and Iuka, said Reginald Glenn, MUTEH PIT count coordinator.
Missing Woodall Mountain Sign Recovered Down a Well
The Woodall Mountain summit dedicated during the 2010 convention but which disappeared shortly afterwards has been recovered after being discovered hidden in a well and tied to a garden hose. Great job! PLAQUE RECOVERED - On January 22, 2015, a local teen out for a hike in an area near US 72 in Iuka discovered something a little strange, an old water hose with one end tied to a tree and the other end thrown over into an old abandoned well.

The Tishomingo County manufacturer produced four large composite ogive panels for the crew capsule and 14 other large composite structures for the Delta IV Heavy rocket for the mission. The ogive panels are the exterior skin of the crew module that provides protection from the extreme temperatures of space.
Yellow Creek narrows director candidates
The Yellow Creek State Inland Port Authority in Iuka has narrowed down candidates for its executive director position from 14 applicants to four, after the longtime port authority executive director died suddenly in October. Board president Benny DeVaughn said Tuesday the board will interview those four candidates in early February and forward the names of two finalists to the Mississippi Development Authority and Gov. Phil Bryant.
